I’ve always believed that a key aim for learning a skill is for the learner to not just increase their knowledge of that subject area but truly engage with it. For example, if a person is learning music they can increase their knowlege with regards how to read songsheets, and can find out more about notes and chords. But ultimately their learning will lead them to the point where they able to play their music with limited conscious effort, that they are able to play the music rather than the notes.

This is an ultimate aim of learning – to be able to engage with the task with minimal conscious effort but rather to feel, know and sense how to perform the desired task.
